About > RC Frequencies
Both AM and FM share the same frequency band. Most modern radio sets are AM but some older sets were available as FM. The frequency band approved in U.K. is 26.960 to 27.280MHz.
The recognized frequency indicator for this band is the appropriate coloured pennant(s) (flag(s)) or a white flag with channel number in black attached to the transmitter arial. A white flag is recommended for sets using 10kHz spacing. Generally at least 20 kHz spacing between transmitter frequencies is advised as only the very latest equipment is capable of operating safely at this specification.
Split frequencies are no longer exclusive to model radio control and may be subject to interference from other authorized users.
Blue on 27.255 was the original 'spot' frequency allocated for radio control in the USA.
The band was originally split into the six Colour frequencies 50kHz apart.
As the selectivity of receivers improved, 'split' frequencies were introduced 25kHz from the Colour frequencies subsequently changed to 30/20kHz splits in anticipation of the continued improvement in selectivity to a channel spacing of 10kHz.
The UK Radio Control Council provide comprehensive details of all 27 mHz R/C frequency allocations for model use in the UK.
Most members will have several sets of frequencies in this band. All members must check with the frequency board to ensure their chosen frequency is available. This is indicated by a coloured peg which must be attached to the relevant transmitter whilst in use.
