About
Welcome to the Crewe & District Model Boat Club Newsletter giving you up to date information on current events and activities for the benefit of members and visitors to our club.
We sail at Boundary Park Lake on Knutsford Road, Cranage, Holmes Chapel. Our Club sailings are on a Sunday from 1pm to 4 pm and additionally on Wednesday afternoon from 1pm.
We have affiliated to the Northern Association of Model Engineers (N.A.M.E.) and have two Boiler Testers Brian Clewes and Mark Venables. Members may present their boilers for testing and will receive NAME documentation once the test has been passed.
We continue to keep the vegetation clear from the bank adjacent to our sailing area, a big thank you to all who assisted, and the results of our original clean can be seen here. We will be adding some staging to the bank edge to secure the position in the new year.
Sailing model boats is an enjoyable pastime but we should all be aware that there is an issue with safety whilst at the sailing site. Please see our section on safe sailing and emergency for full details. All persons attending or sailing at Crewe and District Model Boat Club events do so entirely at their own risk
The water level continues to give problems for model yachts and we are no longer affiliated to The MYA.
This has not, however, stopped a growing band of model yachters from sailing. Any prospective yachting member requiring guidance may contact Brian Clewes our yachting representative .
We always welcome new members but our membership has now grown to a size where we have no vacancies for new members. We prefer to meet prospective members and their models before they apply as this ensures new members are happy with our sailing waters for their model. We maintain a list of prospective members and any vacancies will be offered to those on the list on an earliest date recorded basis. Please contact the Secretary if you wish to be placed on the list.
Visiting modellers are especially welcome with or without their models and we will always try to allow them to sail their model.
We attended the Militaire show on 22nd February, The 2009 Middlewich Transport Festival on Saturday 18th and Sunday 19th July, The Malpas Vintage Machinery Association Yesteryear Rally on the 12th and 13th September and The Alsager Railway Show on the 14th & 15th November. The organisers of the Reaseheath Open day have advised that due to extensive building work the shows for 2009 and 2010 have been canceled. Shows will be held in subsequent years and they look forward to welcoming all past exhibitors.
We had an enjoyable couple of days at the Alsager Railway Show and found plenty of interest in our model from the visiting public. A most enjoyable weekend with much to see and good food and company. Thank you to all who attended and helped. From next year we have been invited to attend the club show at the Oakley Centre in Crewe so this will now be an annual event.
We are seeing a regular attendance of 10+ on Sundays and Wednesdays have a regular attendance of 4+ so the weather has not stopped our sailing. The water level has risen following the recent rain and hopefully we will not have too much frost that will freeze the lake.
Our monthly meetings are from 8pm on the second Tuesday at the British Legion Club in Middlewich.
The next meeting is the club AGM and will be held on Tuesday 12th January 2010.
